How Is It Done?Hijama Facial Cupping for Skin Care & Health

An assessment of the skin is done by experienced therapist at HijamaLife. Accordingly, the size of the cup is determined. The concerns of the client are taken into consideration as well.

Usually small cups are used for smaller areas and in face, chin and jawline.

To minimise bruises or side effects, cupping is done after mild massages. This preps up the skin for Hijama and improves lymphatic drainage. Our therapists use special oils and lotions to client’s face and neck and give a 10-15 mins massage to make the client relaxed. She also makes aware of the procedure to the client.

Wet or fire cupping is avoided in the face. Even static cupping is not done. Therapists prefer to move the cups. This creates stimulation, draws blood around the face, and drains toxins out through your lymphatic system.

Benefits of Facial Cupping

Facial cupping has been shown to:

  • increase oxygen-rich blood circulation
  • strengthen skin and connective tissues
  • stimulate cells responsible for collagen production
  • relax muscle tension

Because of this, the practice is said to:

  • brighten skin
  • minimize the appearance of scars, fine lines, and wrinkles
  • tone chin, jawline, neck, and décolletage
  • decrease puffiness
  • regulate oil production
  • improve nutrient delivery and product absorption

Should I Be Worried?

The main concern or question that comes to mind is:

  • Is it painful?
  • Will my face swell up?
  • Will it leave bruises or scars?
  • Will there be bleeding
  • Does is work?

Well let address the queries:

  • No, Facial Cupping is not painful; but the client will feel a small pull or suction on the skin. According to the sensitivity of the skin, and if the client is on the first or second day or the treatment, the therapist will start of with a milder suction.
  • In rare instances or persons with sensitive and acne prone skin, there might be a few break outs or mild swelling in first few hours but there is nothing to worry. With proper hydration and avoiding caffeine, inflammation subsides, and the results start showing.
  • Unlike Hijama on joints and other parts of body, Hijama on face is different. The cups are moved in a direction. Hence, there is no chance of blood getting accumulated on one point and causing a red or dark mark on the skin. If the cups are left in for longer periods, there might be chances of discoloration.
  • No, there will be no bleeding from the skin as wet cupping is never performed on face. Facial cups are softer in texture than other body cups.
  • Many people, young and mid aged, have tried cupping as an alternate skin care regime and they have found amazing results from cupping. Although it is always advisable to get cupping done from a trained professional to yield best results. One can start off by getting a session per week for first 0-10 weeks.

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger صلاللهعليهوسلم said, “If there was something excellent to be used as a remedy then it is cupping (hijama).” [Sunan Abu Dawud, Sunan Ibn Majah]
